• Patricia Beary_Holly Gordon

In Whisper Loudly, Patricia Beary presents compelling images from European cemeteries. Narratives are exposed in the artifacts and architecture of memorials often in ruin. Each image solicits inquiry. Questions will outnumber answers as the viewer interprets incongruous relics. In a setting honoring the dead, life is revealed.

Tulips....the flower that is fun to kiss and the bulb that uses no electricity yet lights up your garden and your spirits is the subject of this photography exhibition at fotofoto gallery in May 2014. No wonder fine art photographer, Holly Gordon, has been so focused on this photogenic garden favorite throughout the decades. This upbeat exhibition exalts the glorious tulips that have been photographed throughout Holly’s worldwide travels from Monet’s garden in Giverny to our Long Island flowerbeds and places in between.

  • Under The Influence – Student Photography Show

fotofoto gallery is proud to present an exhibition of photographs by student photographers from Long Island and New York schools. Of the Gallery’s twenty-one artists, eleven are photography teachers representing The International Center of Photography, Long Island University CW Post, Nassau Community College, Suffolk County Community College, the Knox School, and Wantagh High School. Each teacher selected two students to be included in the show. Students and their mentors reviewed portfolios making sure to select the very best possible imagery for this exhibition. Students were asked to prepare one framed piece for the month long show. As the semester draws to a close, dedicated students look forward to showing their work in a beautiful gallery space and sharing the excitement of an opening reception with family and friends. In addition to our invited student photographers, fotofoto will feature work from our 6 resident student artists. They are: Mickey Aloisio, Geng Jie, Ali Neisen, Melissa Pelliccia, Susan Sandoval, and Jessica Venier. Prizes for winning images will be selected by the Gallery’s non-teaching artists.

The reception is free and open to the general public. Visit fotofotogallery.org for additional information.

  • Bernice Halpern Cutler – inappropriate appropriation / Thom O’Connor

Bernice Halpern Cutler fantasized about hanging her leftover pieces in the homes of celebrities. When none of her attempts to accomplish this worked out, she decided instead to place them in beautiful rooms from Interior Design magazines. And thus came the first series of appropriated art, “Borrowed Space.” As she continued working in that manner, her photographs developed into a something different than  expected, and eventually it […]

  • Kristin Holcomb – Pears AND Seth Kalmowitz – Reality Unchained

KRISTIN HOLCOMB uses a complicated process of layering oil paint and gesso over black and white photographs Holcomb builds rich and complex images of Long Island grown pears. The artist describes her pears as “exhibiting a gestural sensuality that is almost human.” Her images allow these simple fruits to exude sadness, love, timidity, even rejection. Kristin Holcomb’s pears creep out of the darkness to reveal themselves. The images are no longer still lives but portraits.
SETH KALMOWITZ's images are an attempt to recapture the visual stimulation provided by "better living through chemistry". He invites you to unchain your senses from the visual and emotional confines of reality as we see it and allow the images to set the new norm.
    Reception on Saturday September 6, 2014 from 5 - 7PM. All are welcome. Gallery hours: Friday 5 - 8pm, Saturday 12 - 8pm, Sunday 12 - 4pm and by appointment.
