Kristin Holcomb_Seth Kalmowitz

KRISTIN HOLCOMB uses a complicated process of layering oil paint and gesso over black and white photographs. Holcomb builds rich and complex images of Long Island grown pears. The artist describes her pears as “exhibiting a gestural sensuality that is almost human.”  Her images allow these simple fruits to exude sadness, love, timidity, even rejection. Kristin Holcomb’s pears creep out of the darkness to reveal themselves. The images are no longer still lives but portraits.

Remember the late ’60’s and early ’70’s. When reality was “cool”and “groovy.” SETH KALMOWITZ‘s images are an attempt to recapture the visual stimulation provided by “better living through chemistry”. He invites you to unchain your senses from the visual and emotional confines of reality as we see it and allow the images to set the new norm.

Reception on Saturday September 6, 2014 from 5 – 7PM. All are welcome. Gallery hours: Friday 5 – 8pm, Saturday 12 – 8pm, Sunday 12 – 4pm and by appointment.
