The main objective of the artist/photographer Richard Gardner is to translate explicit reality, that which is perceived by the naked eye, into a new personal truth - a reality implicit through the subconscious.

New York City and especially its subway has always been a gritty, blurry tableau. This artist bears witness to urban humanity struggling to avoid eye contact and striving to remain autonomous within a densely populated and unnaturally constricted space. The imagery is inherently grainy and strikingly high-contrast, and the complexity of this theme begs the use of the black and white medium.
