SUMMARY:Pamela Waldroup - Portraits: Interconnected
DESCRIPTION:Pamela Waldroup – PORTRAITS: Interconnected\nArtists Exhibition Dates: July 1 – July 24\, 2021\nArtists’ Reception: Saturday\, July  10th from 4-7 PM  \nBio/Artist Statement:\nPORTRAITS: Interconnected emerged as a series while revisiting images of people\, past and present and intentionally deciding to voice more transparently the importance of the completely unavoidable relationship between artist and subject. How much of a portrait is truly a “self-portrait?”\nEach portrait is not just an image of the person. It is also a visual representation of some part of me\, a narrative about what is in or missing from my life …a glimpse of the passion\, fascinations and fears that I have. The images are not about what the people look like\, they are about power\, elegance\, strength\, familiarity\, grace\, gratitude\, pride in one’s work\, and attention to quirky details that personify\, distinguish and define a moment forever. \nIsolated for months during this past year\, I was not unique in looking at the past and the present under a microscope. I found myself both narrowing my focus and expanding it exponentially as I revisited images\, old and new\, and realized the interconnections I had with these friends and strangers … and subsequently\, an awareness of the ability on my part to present my strengths and vulnerabilities through their portraits. \nThe portraits that I have chosen to exhibit span 20 years and speak to the significance of many of my life experiences at a given moment in time. Discovering which portraits spoke loudly to me was a solitary process validated through much personal reflection and writing. The close proximity of the subject\, the cropped compositions\, the formality or lack of it and the softness or harshness of the light were captured and heavily edited to reflect my interconnections with the people in front of me while bringing their powerful personalities to life. \nI know myself better as a result of shooting these images\, spending hours editing and re-editing to get the just the right emotional punch in a digital image\, and then editing again to convey the same passion in an archival print.\n“This looks nothing like me\, but I know myself better now.” (Kiki Farish\, Professor\, Meredith College\, North Carolina\,)

SUMMARY:Pure Imagination - Photography by Paul Mele
DESCRIPTION:Pure Imagination – Photography by Paul Mele\nArtists Exhibition Dates: July 1 – July 24\, 2021Artists’ Reception: Saturday\, July  10th from 4-7 PM  \nBio/Artist Statement What began as a one-day workshop at the American Treasure Tour\, took on a life of its own when I began meeting my new friends\, “Rory\,” “Mary Bell” and “Andy.” Over a span of two more visits\, I ended up meeting others just like them. Inspiration truly took hold\, and I felt just like a wide-eyed child running around with a camera in a world of “Pure Imagination.” \n“Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.” –  Carroll Bryant \nAs children\, we rely on our imagination to take us to make-believe places\, to meet people we never really met and experience things beyond our young understanding of the world around us. We project stories onto the objects we hold most sacred as children…our toys. We name them\, take them on adventures and introduce them as if they are as real as we are. We live through them. Their world is pure.We grow older\, and our world changes. Priorities shift\, and we lose part of that imaginative innocence that once came so easily. It can become locked away along with our inner child\, but it can never truly be stamped out. \nI invite you all to make some new friends\, give them names\, make up stories\, and become a child again.

SUMMARY:Overlooked by Tom D'Emic
DESCRIPTION:Tom D’Emic – Overlooked \nArtists Exhibition Dates: June 3 – June 26\, 2021Artists’ Reception: Sunday\, June 13th from 1-5PM  \nBio/Artist StatementI was born and raised in Brooklyn\, NY. Growing up\, I spent my summers in Greenport\, NY. It was there that I started connecting to the natural world. Later in life\, this connection explains the direction my photography has taken. When I finished school\, I taught science to children in grades pre-k to grade five in Brooklyn NY for the next thirty-eight years. Upon retiring\, I finally decided to do something I always wanted to do. I started making photographs. For the past nine years\, I have been honing my photographic skills. I consider myself primarily a Long Island based landscape photographer who explores other subject matter as well\, including deconstructed architecture\, shipyard artifacts and animals in context.I want my photography to be a work in progress. I embrace the fact that my work is still evolving. \nThe eight images presented in “Overlooked” represent trees that I passed by many times but not really noticed. An important part of my workflow as a photographer includes visiting the same location over and over and over and over\, again. Each time I return\, I notice a new and interesting aspect of the place. My vision is affected by the light\, the weather or just how I am feeling at that moment in time. What I wish to convey to the viewer determines whether or not I create my images in black and white or color. It is my hope that you enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed creating them.

SUMMARY:Spherical Magic by Andrea M. Gordon
DESCRIPTION:Andrea M. Gordon – Spherical Magic\nArtists Exhibition Dates: June 3 – June 26\, 2021Artists’ Reception: Sunday\, June 13th from 1-5PM  \nArtist StatementI wish to welcome you to my first post pandemic exhibit\, “Spherical Magic\,” where color\, shape\, reflection and illusionary form merge into a cascade of splendor. The pandemic closed my world immensely…and then a collection of spherical pieces of glass opened up a universe of possibility and wonder. I thought I was going to revisit my marble series from the past for this exhibit. However\, due to some educational speed bumps I decided to shoot a different marble series. After this decision\, I went to gallery sit at fotofoto Gallery\, and walking towards the door\, amazingly\, I found one blue/green magnificent marble in a crevasse in the cement. \n \nMy idea to shoot a new marble series was absolutely confirmed. I had a vision of where to purchase some new marbles\, and as fate would have it\, I found them hanging on a rack exactly where I envisioned them. Like a child in a candy store\, the thrill of shooting the new series was a delight beyond measure – with a racing heartbeat as fuel. Every evening as I set the stage for my shoot\, these marvelous marbles would become animated. Their animation illuminated my life and breathed air into my lungs with color\, shape and magnetic radiance. A visual and heartfelt ballet. A sensory delight. These simply incredible spherical wonders would create\, for me\, a photographer’s Mardi Gras! Truly the antithesis of the past year synthesizing the reality of Covid. I invite you to dance with the messages conveyed within this series. What lies and is created from within always outshines what lies on the surface. The surface provides a suitcase\, so to speak\, with which we are all challenged to pack with the most vibrant color\, sensation and emotion. These magical universes renewed a sense of wonder that had been deeply lost over the past year. Marbles are incredible messengers of light\, form and reflection. Their uniqueness and ever-changing patterns wink for attention while locked in their spherical homes. They seem to mirror humanity.     \nMy vision is that “Spherical Magic” will be a bridge that will connect you to the ever-present Magic of Life. \nAndrea M. SUMMARY:Denis Ostrovskiy Fatal To Prejudice
DESCRIPTION:Denis Ostrovskiy:\nFatal to Prejudice\nIn our “rat race” of life\, very few undertakings end up being worth the effort. One of them is traveling. It allows you to look at the mundane daily activities and shores you are accustomed to from a completely different prospective. Aldous Huxley pointed out that traveling allows you to discover what is wrong with your country. An exceptional traveler\, Mark Twain\, believed that “travels are fatal to prejudice\, bigotry\, and narrow-mindedness\, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.”  Broad\, wholesome\, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one’s lifetime. Photography greatly enhances your traveling experience. Many people\, including myself\, took the camera in their hands for the first time with an intention to share their remarkable encounters with the world. These photographs represent a token of gratitude to the remarkable locations I have been privileged to visit.

SUMMARY:Eileen Novack: Exploring Form & Texture
DESCRIPTION:Eileen Novack: Exploring Form and Texture\nI have been exploring the common things around me in vivid color for the past few years\, but I feel now that it’s time to take another look and explore the world of monochrome and muted tones.\nThe form and textures of nature are endlessly fascinating\, but so are the manufactured objects around us. They all have patterns of light and shadow that\, without color\, distill the subject and remove the extraneous detail.\nThis exhibit contains images that explore the form and texture around me. Eggs always seem to creep in when I look around. Many of the images here are of eggs in some form; they are so much a part of my life that it is hard to ignore them.

SUMMARY:Denis Ostrovskiy - Rough Road
DESCRIPTION:Photography by Denis Otrovskiy\nRough Road\nDecember 3\, 2020 – January 2\, 2021\n \nOver the last year the people of New York\, other states and the rest of the world\, have endured a lot of hardship. The sudden change of the way we live and behave had a dramatic impact on our existence. We continue to face unexpected consequences of these changes every day. We have suffered personal tragedies which are not similar to each other. We do not know what to expect and when the feeling of impending calamities will leave as… But\, life is still going on. We cannot be thrown off by this experience. The photos I present were taken over the last year. They depict the fragments of an everyday life in New York. These observations are a clear indication of the upcoming normality and everlasting hope. \nAbout the Artist:Denis Ostrovskiy\, a fotofoto gallery artist\, is originally from Saint Petersburg\, Russia. He developed his interests in wildlife and street photography over many years and enjoys passionate enthusiasm for wildlife and conservancy efforts. Although never trained as a fine artist\, Ostrovskiy developed an interest in art history early in his life while exposed to one of the world’s finest art collections at the Hermitage Museum. Eventually\, this influenced him to transform his hobby of photography into a passion for artistic development. His main interest is street photography\, concentrating on candid street portraits depicting the subject’s character in an urban environment.Ostrovskiy has exhibited his work on Long Island at the Art League of Long Island and fotofoto gallery and in the NYC area\, including Salmagundi Art Club. He is a member of Long Island Center of Photography and Photography Club of Long Island.

SUMMARY:Pamela Waldroup - MoMA Interactions
DESCRIPTION:Photography by Pamela Waldroup\nMoMA Interactions\nDecember 3\, 2020 – January 2\, 2021\n \nFor as long as I can remember I’ve had a heightened awareness of my surroundings. I take photographs because I want to capture that feeling of being mesmerized by a moment\, so I can relive those feelings each time I look at my work. My camera emboldens me to linger far longer than I might normally feel comfortable. “Becoming Rothko” is one of the photographs from a larger “MoMA Interactions” series. I shot these images discreetly at the Museum of Modern Art using the shutter-priority feature of a small digital camera. Immediate feedback allowed me to examine my personal perspective and determine whether to engage in the process obviously or to simply observe and record.I think my intentional searches for random coincidences juxtaposed against physical and sometimes\, emotional detachment found a voice through blur and articulation in these multi-layered glimpses of frozen time. The placement\, the close or distant proximity\, the lighting\, the shots I choose to keep and the ones I throw away all narrate a search to find order in chaos through intense observation of the accidental commonalities that occur around us every day\, in every moment \nAbout the Artist:Originally from the Midwest\, Pamela Waldroup continues to document her East Coast experience with a newcomer’s fascination for details. Waldroup has established herself as a fine art photographer on the North Shore of Long Island. She holds a B.F.A. from Ohio University and a M.A. in Drawing and Printmaking from Long Island University where she studied with master artist Stan Brodsky. Waldroup’s intensive experience in printmaking with Dan Welden in Florence\, Italy and in the Masters in Art Workshop at Southampton inspired her transition to digital photography as her primary media over the years.  A member of the National Association of Women Artists in NYC and fotofoto Gallery in Huntington\, NY\, Waldroup has exhibited extensively in the metropolitan area in galleries and museums including: the Alex Ferrone Gallery\, Salmagundi Art Club in NYC\, 440 Gallery in Brooklyn\, fotofoto Gallery\, East End Arts Gallery\, Patchogue Arts Council Gallery\, Mills Pond House Gallery\, Main Street Gallery\, Art League of LI\, Long Island Museum\, b.j. A sinister side that by social standards is not considered the “norm” and frowned upon by the majority as “weird.” \nGRiM is a series of photographs that explores the inner demons of human nature\, exposing these morbid fascinations as something complex\, beautiful\, and ultimately human. \nAbout the ArtistA fotofoto gallery and Soho Photo gallery artist\, Paul Mele is a photographer living and working on Long Island. His photographs often illustrate time’s way of imposing it’s will upon all things and the wreckage it leaves behind. To achieve his vision Paul shoots\, edits and prints all his own work. He holds certifications in photography from both Nassau Community College on Long Island and the International Center of Photography in New York City. He has also studied with Vincent Versace and Neal Parent at the Maine Media Workshop\, and with Carlan Tapp at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshop. \nHis work has been exhibited on Long Island and in New York City\, including Alfred Van Loen Gallery\, Art League of Long Island\, b.j. Spoke\, Fire House Gallery\, fotofoto gallery\, Guild Hall\, Heckscher Museum of Art (2018 Biennial)\, Huntington Art Center\, Michael Braceland Gallery\, Mills Pond Gallery\, Salmagundi Club\, Soho Photo Gallery\, the Solarium at Houghton Hall and A Smith Gallery in Texas and in online exhibitions hosted by the Hampton’s Art Hub\, NYC4PA and Plymouth Center for the Arts. \n \nNew Winter Gallery Hours:Thursday: 12pm – 4pm Friday\, Saturday\, Sunday: 11am – 6pm and by appointment14 West Carver Street • Huntington • NY • 11743 • 631 549-0448

SUMMARY:Bruce Cohen - "Reflections"
DESCRIPTION:October 29th – November 28\,2020\nBRUCE COHEN – Artist Statement – “Reflections”\nI chose the theme “Reflections” for very personal reasons … to portray the reflections of life\, of how one views our humanity\, our existence\, and our love of our world. The lighting and the shapes in the images of lakes\, ponds\, city\, and countryside captured my interest .. I hope it does the same for you.\nI have been a photographer for 55 years and have traveled throughout Europe\, Asia\, Africa and North America. My photographs are from both analog and digital negatives. I process all my images using Lightroom\, Photoshop and Nik Filters to achieve the color and the warm final presentations. I’ve taken workshops at ICP in New York City\, Upstate New York\, and in Maine. Prior to my first solo show at fotofoto Gallery\, I won several awards at national competitions\, and my work is part of many corporate collections. \nAll framed works in this exhibition are priced at $225

SUMMARY:Andrea M. Gordon - "Orchids Extraordinaire"
DESCRIPTION:October 29th – November 28\,2020\nAndrea M. Gordon – Artist Statement – “Orchids Extraordinaire”My dear mother’s passing five years ago has left a deep hole in my life.  This hole has become fertile to many seeds that have flourished in it.  Loss can become an illuminating light in one’s life-like orchids in the night. \nAbout the Photographer My name is Andrea M. Gordon and I have owned Universal Touch Professional Massage for the past thirty-two years.  I am a Licensed Massage Therapist who has had a passion for healing through Medical/Relaxation massage therapy. It is for this reason that my hands have become my “eyes” and “ears” and have taught me to “see” and “hear” my patient’s body. Later in life I found another passion that inspired a dance between my eyes and hands.  Photography. I always have had a fascination with perception and the reality that we can all “see” and “sense” the same things differently. Moments of perception create our lives and I found that my hands behind my camera offered me the opportunity to embrace all that life offers. My eyes see the world and with a stroke of my camera I can hold that moment in time forever. My exhibit Orchids Extraordinaire is a gift from my mother whose passing five years ago left me on a highway without pavement. I had saved her orchid plant and through the years there were no blooms… until it gave me a shoot with six buds of which four actually took flight in the corner of my living room.  It was an incredible shoot\, every evening documenting their metamorphosis from as many angles as was their splendor.  They mirror my dear mother in every way.  And my heart is full.  Enjoy our journey.

SUMMARY:Richard Gardner - "Bebe Identity"
DESCRIPTION:Richard Gardner – Artist Statement – “Bebe Identity”Photographed as thoughtful beings\, the dolls are in inorganic representation of the conscious persona. Through the use of analogous imagery\, the artist prompts the viewer to construct personal meaning and thus subjectively interpret the thoughts of each doll. In the end\, the viewer is left with the discordant awareness that the thoughts they have attached to what they have observed is not and never will be a living thing. Evocative\, repressive and disturbingly sexual\, Bebe exposes the stark imperfections of humans through the safety of inanimate objects. \nClick Here to view the online Gallery.

SUMMARY:Aronda Xystris - "Drag Gals"
DESCRIPTION:Aronda Xystris – Artist Statement – “Drag Gals”Drag Gals is a collection of images taken in the community of Cherry Grove\, Fire Island\, NY. This yearly historical event\, the Independence Day Invasion and Parade\, is the creme de la creme of creativity and excitement\, with drag queens showing off their fabulousness for all to see. The tradition began in 1976\, as a protest when one of the ‘Queens’ was refused service at a Pines establishment. What soon followed was a water taxi carrying several drag queens\, dressed in full regalia\, to ‘invade’ the Pines\, in their self-made costumes. For many decades\, the ‘Invasion of the Pines’ has been a consummate event\, witnessed by droves of party goers who descend to the Grove and Pines each year on July 4th for fun and merriment. \nClick Here to view the online gallery
