Triangles are the simplest polygon and have been used to compose elements in art and architecture throughout human history. From the Pyramids to the Mona Lisa – arranging the subjects in creative endeavors by using triangles is called triangular composition. Triangular elements can be used in a variety of ways to create balance\, or its opposite in any design. The artist can create dynamic tension and build a hierarchy of interest and interconnection in a scene by drawing the viewers eye along diagonals and their intersecting apex points. Diagonal momentum can be used to lure the viewers eye to parts of an image that otherwise might be overlooked. The artist can further depth perception or block it by utilizing leading lines; which can extend out the canvas or frame.
