July brings an exciting new group exhibit to fotofoto gallery – “An exhibition of large proportions…the only rule was make it big!”
“Space is an inspirational concept that allows us to dream big”, says Peter H. Diamandis, founder and chairman of the X PRIZE Foundation and co-founder of Singularity University.
Our summer exhibition, entitled “BIG”, celebrates our 11th year with BIG works filling our gallery. Each of our artists will be represented by one large-sized image, be it digital or analog, traditionally presented or utilizing a non-traditional method. Documentary, street, conceptual, impressionistic, architectural, portraits, landscapes…it is the coming together to celebrate the idea of big in a very BIG way.
No other photography gallery on Long Island comes close to fotofoto’s longevity or diversity of vision. Not only have the fotofoto gallery artists dreamed BIG but they bring their dreams to reality in a big way in this exhibition.
Enter the fotofoto gallery space and venture into to this creative universe.
The diversity of gallery artists will be evident and on full display beginning Saturday, July 5th and running through Sunday, July 27th, 2014. The opening reception for “BIG” will be held Saturday, July 12th from 5pm – 7pm.
In addition there will be a gallery talk Sunday, July 27th at 2:00pm to explore the creative process of photography and the opportunities that fotofoto gallery offers serious photographers. As always, admission is free and open to the public.
Hope to see you there!
Led by fotofoto gallery artist Alli Rufrano, “Human Presence in the Photographic Image” is an incredibly unique workshop opportunity allowing photographers to reflect who they are through the examination of others.
“The use of the human figure as an expressive force in visual communication is emphasized. Exercises are created to develop one’s awareness of the human presence in the contemporary photographic image and its relationship to space, time and movement. The towns and hills of Umbria, Italy will be the backdrop as participants interpret their subjects with renewed creativity, while developing an individual style and sensibility. During the week long photo festival, based in the medieval city of Gubbio, participants concentrate on the expressive role of the photographic medium while developing new friendships with unforgettable experiences. Participants are required to bring cameras, tripods and laptops to process and edit their photographs for output. A print portfolio of 10-15 images is required to participate. The course will include lectures and field trips, shooting and editing, critiques and individual evaluations. The workshop will conclude with an exhibition of student work and a farewell dinner.”
The workshop program is as follows;
June 29 – arrival
June 30 – July 4 – workshops
July 5 – depart
Included in the workshop is;
6 nights’ hotel with breakfast
5 lunches and 5 dinners
minibus for Umbria excursions
2 matted, framed photos
reception and exhibition
special farewell dinner

Running now through June 30th, 2014 at Comsewogue Public Library in Port Jefferson Station, NY – “Moments in Time: Colors, Shapes & Textures” by fotofoto gallery artist Andrea M. Gordon.
Andrea describes her current exhibit as follows:
FotoFoto Gallery is proud to present “Under the Influence”, a photography exhibition featuring students from schools on Long Island and New York City. Eleven of FotoFoto’s members are photography teachers who represent such institutions as the International Center of Photography, the Knox School, Long Island University CW Post, Nassau Community College, Suffolk County Community College, and Wantagh High School. These instructors have each selected two of their students for inclusion in the show. Students, along with their mentors, reviewed portfolios in order to select the very best possible imagery for this exhibition. The students were then asked to prepare one framed piece each for the month long show. As the semester draws to a close, these dedicated students are looking forward to showing their work in our beautiful gallery space and sharing the excitement of an opening reception with family, friends and the photography loving public. “Under the Influence” will also include works from our 6 resident student artists. Prizes will be awarded for the top images as selected by the gallery’s non-teaching artists.
This exhibit runs May 30th through June 29th. The opening reception is Saturday, May 31st from 5pm – 7pm and is free and open to the public.
Visit fotofotogallery.org for additional information.
Coinciding with our student exhibition opening, our neighbors at Lotus Vintage are also promoting this event and celebrating with music, food, drinks – and a 25% off everything sale! See the details below – as well as some of our student photography.
This month at FotoFoto Gallery in Huntington, New York, two photographers’ visual documentaries explore life, death and life anew in the gallery’s May exhibit.
Patricia Beary’s “Whisper Loudly” features compelling images captured from European cemeteries. “Narratives are exposed in the artifacts and architecture of memorials…as each image solicits inquiry…questions will outnumber answers as the viewer interprets incongruous relics. In a setting honoring the dead, life is revealed.”
In relative contrast, “Tulips” by Holly Gordon “exalts the glorious tulips that have been photographed throughout her worldwide travels – from Monet’s garden in Giverny to our Long Island flowerbeds, and places in-between.”
The exhibit runs Friday, May 2nd through Sunday, May 25th, 2014. Opening reception is Saturday, May 3rd from 5pm until 7pm. Admission, as always, is free. You are also invited to join the photographers on Sunday, May 25th for a “gallery talk” at 2pm. Holly and Pat will offer insights into their works, their creative processes, inspirations and more.
FotoFoto Gallery is located at 14 West Carver Street. Hours are Fridays from 5pm – 8pm, Saturdays from 12pm – 8pm, and Sundays from 12pm – 4pm.
