Passeggiata – an Italian stroll in Huntington

Passeggiata

Each evening, after dinner, it is the custom in Italy to take a stroll, or passeggiata.

The intention of this collaborative exhibition is to create a passeggiata between two galleries in Huntington. Each gallery, 9 East Contemporary Art Guild located at 9 East Carver Street and fotofoto gallery at 14 West Carver Street, will host exhibitions about Italy.

In 2012, four photographers and four of their friends/family travelled to Italy. They began the trip in Umbria, then went on to Sicily and ended their travels in Verona. The three-month journey was filled with exciting places, delicious food, and a mountain of images. All agree that it was difficult to take a few steps without stopping to photograph. This exhibition is devoted to the soul of Italy and her people.

9 East will feature a solo exhibition of photographs by Lois Youmans entitled Benvenuti. The work represents her impressions of Italian hospitality, where visitors are welcomed with open arms and open hearts… and there is always room for an extra chair at the table.

The exhibition at fotofoto gallery includes work by Patricia Beary, Sandra Carrion, Joan Powers and Lois Youmans along with their guests, Dan Burkholder, Jane McQueen, Laura Orticelle and Russell Youmans.

Both galleries will also host group exhibitions of work by gallery artists.

The collaboration will be complete with a stop between the two galleries at Porto Fino Restaurant, one of Huntington’s top eateries.

Join us for the receptions at both galleries on November 2, from 5 – 7 PM, for art, appetizers, and a passeggiata as we celebrate Italy.
